MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
l The primary responsibility of the Supplier Quality Engineer is the oversight of products produced by all 3rd party suppliers for Rather Outdoors. Lead and control Suppliers Quality Control department and direct resources to support our sourced supply base. Establish process controls and inspection instruction that ensure defective products are prevented, training both internal inspector and external supplier the control instruction and developing quality practices, processes, and philosophy.
l Drive project and process improvements within supplier base and inspection protocols to ensure high quality parts and finished goods, ensure gauging, long term capability etc. is in place and sustained, perform physical audits of products and processes when needed.
l Provide regular status reports to management regarding quality condition, conduct supplier audits and qualifications, work with supplier chain to provide feedback to supplier regarding improvement opportunities and work with them to improve their systems, assist Supplier with Root Cause Analysis when issues arise (NSR & CAR), Review Actions with suppliers on regular basis.
l Participate in engineering design reviews and joint development of plans with sourcing and engineering. During the New Product Design Phase, the Supplier Quality Engineer is expected to work directly with relevant parties, to ensure the components, sub-assemblies, and final product can be consistently produced to the defined requirements, and build up part/product inspection standard in needs.
l During the early development stage the Supplier Quality Engineer is expected to work with Design Engineer to ensure correct part through First Article Inspection process and the product meets all requirements in order to approve the production.
l During the production start-up phases, the Supplier Quality Engineer will support relevant parties and their suppliers with quality and technical assistance to ensure the final product consistently meets the previously defined requirements, and he/she is totally responsible to drive out the variation by improving the processes in Rather Outdoors products. Continuously improve manufacturing, test, assembly and process, pursue state of the art technology and processes to enhance product/process produce ability and delivered quality requirements.
l Investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
l Once a product is in production, the Supplier Quality Engineer should be aware of the products successes and / or failures in the marketplace by working with Design Engineers and evaluating defective product. If issues are discovered that create unsatisfied customers in the marketplace, the Design and Supplier Quality Engineers must work together to identify root causes and ensure the necessary design and/or manufacturing changes are identified and implemented to correct the problems.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience:
Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in quality engineer, Manufacturing engineer. Practical manufacturing experience with fishing goods is preferred.
Knowledge of quality and manufacturing tools such as SPC, FEMA, CP, Pokeyoke, Parto analysis, cause and affect analysis, fishbone diagrams, PPAP.
Knowledge of process control techniques (for example Statistical Process Control, etc.) is required. Also required ability to teach and implement use of Control Plans, FMEA, QFD etc.
An individual who is motivated, has capability to work independently and analytical, ability to undertake pressure.
Experience in consumer products industry preferred.
